The house is closed up for the Winter and the snow will be falling soon in Whale Pass. We had a few high winds.....117mph at Lincoln Rock in Clarence Strait and several other storms with high winds for several days. A few power outages and one humongous lightning strike across the bay that also took out the power. Hopefully those events weren't the start of a bad Winter.
This year we'll have 'Dude' our cat traveling with us. That in itself may warrant a lot of writing. Right now she's in kitty Hotel in Ketchikan while we're in Anchorage visiting Josh and his family. We're enjoying our time with Josh, Erin, and especially Baby Chance. Today Grandma and Chance put up "A really BIG tree" as Chance keeps saying. He's excited for Christmas and I guess children's enthusiasm is what makes it fun for us adults.
We'll be leaving for Juneau next Thursday to see Tristan and Adam and spend Thanksgiving with them for a few days.
Then back to Ketchikan where we'll catch the ferry to Bellingham, Washington and on to Oregon to see our neighbors from Whale Pass....Pat and Laura.
I've done several paintings, but I don't have my computer here with me to upload them. I'll do that when I get back to Ketchikan.
I hope everyone has a good Thanksgiving and have a safe Holiday season.

40 Days..40 Nights....Finally A Ray Of Sun

Been laying low for a few weeks now. Been raining everyday so not much production around the house.
We'll be leaving to go visit the kids around Nov 14th and then head South to visit friends and family for a few months.
The sketch on the right is of a fisherman who fishes in Alaska. He and his wife Nancy were a fun couple to have on float 12. Those were good times with all the fisherman there each Summer.
No snow or signs of snow yet. Hopefully it'll be a good Winter here in Whale Pass for everyone.
Been working in the shop, but now that it's getting cooler, so is the shop. Wonder if I should install a stove.

Fall Is In The Air
Sometimes a gentle breeze will bring down a leaf, but not last week. 100 mph winds did along with large Sitka Spruce trees. In Craig , a small town 90 miles South of us) the wind blew 110 mph. As for the painting to the right, it's of a photo my daughter, Tristan took.
Getting closer to leaving for a few months. Will be glad to feel the sun again.
We've had rain every day all day for the past week and a half. The sun is poking thru right now, but not for long. Still a lot of clouds around.

Wind, Rain, and Painting
Last Summer was busy for us.....water shed for water tanks, rebuilding porch, beams and footers under the house (still), and having adventures with our neighbors Pat and Laura
On the right is one of 3 paintings I've been working on this past week. Just need to finish a few items and then it'll be done. ( Finished painting the one on the right, but don't have a photo of it yet) I have several ideas for more paintings and hope to start on them within the next few days.
Looks like we'll be headed South soon. Probably just before Thanksgiving. Visit the kids first up North, then come back and catch ferry South.
Dude is doing good and she'll be with us this trip. Now is when we would like a 5th wheel, but we'll see how this goes.
Suppose to blow 80 tomorrow. Blowing a little today and the past week. Storm warnings past few days and now bigger winds. Had one blow that was over 100 a few yrs ago on Hollloween. That's when I stayed up all night thinking a tree was going to come down thru the house. Guess trees did come down on a few houses and several micro burst brought a lot more trees down close to other houses.
Hope everyone is doing good and I'll try writting more on this blog.

Summer 2010 What I Didn't Do

Yep, the painting on the right is what I didn't get to this Summer....fly fish.
Did get to go a few adventures with our neighbors Pat and Laura.
Pam and I are working on the porch and still pouring footers and working on the foundation. Seems like that's a never ending chore.
We took an ETT class a few weeks ago. Not too many people wanted to do it so we decided may as well.
Things are slow here in the bay since so many people have left.
I'm at the library working and have lots to do so better get on with it. It's be nice to have Internet at the house and just blog as time permitted.
I'll be back when I have another painting finished.

Hot ! and Sweaty

Just an update on what's been going on so far this Summer. It's certainly been a busy one although I haven't been that busy. Seems like there's more projects to do around the house than time to do them.
The new project I'm working on is a water shed for a rain catch system. It'll also hold a deticated tank for fires. Hope I never need to use that one. Also a new project that probably won't get started till next Summer is a green house for Pam and of course the footers and new post under the house which has been ongoing for 3 yrs. I imagine that one will continue for another 3.
Pam went to Ketchikan to work and volunteer for a week helping at a dental free clinic for people in town get dental work done. Me, i stayed home to work on my projects. One of which is a painting above.
I better get home and start on those projects.
Supposr to get to 89 today, way too hot to work.....
